
State's Attorney
The Deuel County State's Attorney is an elected official who serves as the chief legal officer for Deuel County. The State's Attorney represents the State of South Dakota and the county in legal matters and is responsible for ensuring that justice is administered fairly and impartially.
The State's Attorney appears in all courts within the county to prosecute criminal offenses and represent the interests of the State of South Dakota. The office also represents Deuel County in civil matters and provides legal counsel to the Board of County Commissioners and other county officials on matters involving county government.
Additional responsibilities of the State's Attorney's Office include reviewing criminal investigations, determining whether criminal charges should be filed, prosecuting misdemeanor and felony cases, handling juvenile and abuse and neglect proceedings, and representing the county in various civil actions and legal proceedings.
The State's Attorney works closely with local law enforcement agencies, the courts, victims, witnesses, and other public officials to uphold the law, protect public safety, and ensure the fair administration of justice for the citizens of Deuel County.
